Requirements

The 300-m-long, three-storey, light-flooded mall with approx. 19,500 m² of commercial space, some 100 shops and 1,000 m of window displays as well as additional 2,500 m² of area for restaurants, services etc. is located in Erlangen's prime shopping location.

The aim is to make people want to stroll and linger in bright, clean and atmospheric surroundings.

Adequate emphasis of the longest display window in the city, the supply of the shops and the creation of flexible options of utilisation were the intention in terms of interior design.

Solutions

Large, curved moulded elements along the entire window display fronts on three levels meet maximum requirements in terms of fire protection and inspection access.

Following the curving of the arcades, precisely moulded ceiling elements were created in round and elliptical shapes with numerous integrated technical installations for illumination, air conditioning and fire protection.

The high degree of pre-fabrication and perfectly coordinated building site logistics posed very special challenges in this major project.
